Wood has long been used to create various objects: from houses and furniture to toys and jewelry. Not far from the city arboretum is the Forest Museum in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Inside and outside there are exhibits: living trees, their images and other notable objects.

The Arboretum of the Forest Institute covers an area of 15.15 hectares on the banks of the Yenisei. Over 400 plant species are represented here. They are cultivated, crossed, introducing new subspecies, accustomed to other conditions of existence.

In the Small Hall of the museum you can learn about the natural features of Siberia, the history of the development of the forestry of the region, technology and science. Here are historical documents, wood slices with a diverse structure, wood products, portraits of the prominent figures of Russia, who influenced the development of forestry.

In the center of the second hall is a huge map of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, under which there is a diorama of forests in the region. It presents models of not only plants, trees, but also representatives of the forest fauna: figures of wild boars, wolves, lynx and other animals.

Photo and description

The Forest Museum is the only such museum in Siberia. The museum’s exposition is located in Akademgorodok in two rooms with a total area of 552.8 sq.m. The idea of founding this kind of museum arose in 1920 during the first congress of forest ranks of the Yenisei province, but only 80 years later turned this idea into reality.

A small hall called the Hall of Labor Glory is an introductory one. Here is a centuries-old history of the formation and development of the forest industry of the region. Visitors to this room will be able to see an extensive collection of forest fossil objects, for example, pine cones from 5 to 15 thousand years old, 360-year-old pine stump, a cut of semi-fossil larch wood, which is already more than 3700 years old, and many other fossil forest objects.

Of particular interest to museum guests is the main hall, where a large diorama of forests of the Krasnoyarsk Territory of all climatic zones is located - from the northern tundra to the mountain taiga regions of the south. The presented diorama is considered one of the best in Russia.

Museum visitors can also see representatives of the forest flora and fauna of the Krasnoyarsk Territory here. The expositions contain all varieties of coniferous and deciduous trees that grow in this region. This exhibition carefully preserves the centuries-old history of the development of the forest industry in the region. In addition to forest flora, models of representatives of forest fauna are also presented, for example, figures of wolves, wild boars, lynx, stuffed mountain goat and other forest animals. On the second floor of the main hall there is a series of expositions about the forest as an ecological system, about the food, medicine and wood resources of forests, about the impact of mankind on the natural environment, about the protection of forests and their restoration.

Museum employees hold large-scale events, the main purpose of which is to familiarize the younger generation with the rules of behavior in nature.
