In the Leningrad region there is a very interesting city, in which many vacationers tend to go on a weekend from St. Petersburg. This is Vyborg. Not only residents of the northern capital are sent to it, but also people from other regions of Russia who have already appreciated the sights of St. Petersburg. Here they can feel the West European flavor, visiting interesting places.
A special attraction of the city is a medieval fortress. She is in fairly good condition. Since 1960, a museum with a very interesting exhibition has been operating in it. Vyborg Castle covers an area of 170 by 120 meters, but many buildings have successfully been located on it. The main object is the Olaf Tower, which has a height of about 49 meters.
If desired, tourists can climb to the observation deck. For many, walking up the stairs will seem tedious, but it is from here that a wonderful view of the historical part of the city and its surroundings opens.

Another historical attraction is the stone artillery tower, which has a circular shape. This defensive structure was erected in the 16th century under the leadership of Bergen. The round tower is considered a valuable landmark of the city, but now it houses an entertainment facility. There is a bar on the ground floor, a banquet hall on the second floor, and a restored mural room on the third floor.

On the territory of Vyborg is a merchant's house, built in the XVII century. At the beginning of the 20th century, this building housed a hotel with a small shop in the corner compartment of the ground floor. Now it is a residential building in which there is a cozy cafe where you can try Vyborg pretzels.

Vyborg Town Hall
In the center of the city is one of the most beautiful buildings built in 1643. Local authorities sat in it. During the hostilities in 1710, the building was badly damaged. For local authorities, another object was chosen, and the old building was used for various needs.

Monument to Peter I
At the highest point of Vyborg, a monument to Peter I was erected. It was from this place that the emperor watched the battle for the Vyborg castle. The monument is a sculpture by Leopold Bernstam. A huge boulder made of granite, having a height of 350 cm, acts as a pedestal.
The emperor is depicted next to the cannon: in his left hand he holds a sword, and in his right - a plan of the siege of the fortress. The monument to Peter I was made at the initiative of Nicholas II. He wanted to perpetuate the emperor, thanks to whom Vyborg became part of the Russian state.

Town Hall Tower
The battle tower, which is part of a large fortress wall, has been preserved on the territory of the city. Throughout the entire period of its existence, its purpose has constantly changed. The skate of the tower roof is located at an altitude of 12.5 meters. The internal space of the structure is divided into three tiers. On the first of them there was a passage gate, in the rest loopholes were arranged.

Monument to Torgils Knutsson

However, in the postwar period, the sculpture was removed. They thought that the enemy’s statue should not be put on public display. Only in 1993, the sculpture was returned back.
