What to see in Vyborg in one day

The center of attraction, the main tourist attraction is the Vyborg Castle, founded in 1293. This is the only medieval fortress in Russia. It is worth starting your one-day trip with him. From the railway station to Castle Island - just 2.2 km along the promenade of the Northern Harbor. The dominant feature of the island is St. Olav’s Tower, where there is an observation deck. Festivals are held periodically on the castle grounds, then the entrance is more expensive (watch the poster separately).

Vyborg is very compact, and all the main attractions are concentrated in its central historical part (Naberezhnaya, Yuzhny Val, Leningradsky Prospekt).

It is curious that even after the Vyborg province appeared in the Russian Empire, Swedish laws acted on its territory and Lutheranism persisted (see Church of Saints Peter and Paul).

After the island, you can return back over the bridge to the Old Town Hall Square. Further along Fortress Street - Church of St. Hyacinth and Clock Tower with a clockwork, launched in the middle of the XVIII century.

A touching echo of the past is the House of the Merchant Guild of the Holy Spirit - the oldest stone building in Vyborg.

City life boils on the Market Square, where there are two significant architectural monuments - the Round Tower and the market building.

Behind Leningradsky Prospekt there is at least one curious architectural object - the Alvar Aalto Library. It’s worth going inside: the interiors are not typical for the appearance of Vyborg, and therefore are doubly attractive. This is a masterpiece of functionalism, which has been carefully restored.

Actually, the most important thing you saw, and through Red Square you can move back to the railway station. It is quite possible to meet one daylight and catch the evening train to St. Petersburg. Do not forget to make a detour to the dragonfights.
