Drum Mountain is Fuzhou's largest attraction. Already during the Jin Dynasty, it was famous for its "incomparable beauty." It is 10 km away. south of the city, on the banks of the Minjiang River. The highest peaks are the Lion Peak, the White Cloud and the Alms Cup (among Buddhist monks). In the mountains there are about 160 attractions, among which the central place is occupied by the temple at the source of Gushin. Since ancient times, scientists and poets have sought to get here. They left many poems and inscriptions on the rocks, in which they admired the amazing beauty of these places.
The temple at the source of Gushin is one of the oldest in the province of Fujian. He is over 1,000 years old. The inscription at the entrance of the "Temple at the source of Gushin" was made by the emperor Kangxi himself (1654-1722, reigned 1662-1722). In front of the temple in 1080 during the Northern Song Dynasty, two pagodas were built. The height of the 9-story pagoda is 7 m. Inside are 1,038 figures of Buddhas and 72 images of monks and warriors.
Behind the temple there is a trail that leads to the top of Drum Mountain. The height of the mountain is 925 m. It is a great place to enjoy the sunrise. An 8.5-kilometer trail leads from the temple to the foot of the mountain. It consists of 2,145 steps. To the west of the temple are 18 caves. And if you go east, then you can get into the Pavilion of the Curving Dragon. Further, passing through the thicket, you will find yourself at Lingyuan Cave. A lot of legends and myths are associated with these places. Since the Song Dynasty, over 300 inscriptions have been left on the rocks. This is a real museum of Chinese calligraphy!

The mountain drum (Gu Shan) and its surroundings are considered a legendary place in the Fuzhou city district, as they combine the amazing beauty of nature and the numerous historical monuments of the Jin Dynasty. For centuries, great thinkers, poets and just ordinary people have been striving for grief-drum. This is due to the fact that next to the mountain are the largest Buddhist temples and thousand-year-old pagodas built at the beginning of the XI century. The interior of the pagodas is decorated with small Buddha figures (1037 pieces), as well as ancient drawings depicting monks and Chinese warriors.
Mount Drum itself is 10 kilometers from Fuzhou City. The main reference point for tourists is the Minjiang River and the three highest peaks (Cup, White Lake, Leo). Outwardly, the mountain resembles a hill of flat boulders stacked on top of each other, on which you can see a huge number of calligraphic inscriptions left by Chinese monks and poets. An interesting fact is that during a thunderstorm, flat boulders begin to make peculiar sounds similar to drum beats. Therefore, since ancient times, the mountain has been compared with this musical instrument.
It is most convenient to get to the top of the mountain along a narrow path consisting of 2143 stone steps. The climb is quite difficult, but in the end you will find yourself among untouched landscapes and you can watch the magnificent sunrise. Among the Chinese, there is a legend that a person who met a sunrise on a mountain-drum will live forever. That is why ancient thinkers and followers of Buddha spent a lot of time in this place, shrouded in folk myths.
